Parents are awarded "parenting time" in a "parenting schedule." Non-parents (grandparents, siblings, half-siblings, step-siblings, and step-parents) are awarded "visitation."
Illinois does not recognize a "standard parenting schedule" for parents and there is no such thing as "standard visitation" for non-parents.
Each case is different, each case depends on myriad influences, and each resolution tries to satisfy the "best interests" of the children.
Work with a lawyer to be sure you are fully involved in the lives of your children. A well-crafted parenting schedule will address both parents' work shedules, the children's schedules, days off school, parent-teacher conferences, holidays, vacations, emergencies, illness, travel difficulties, and much more.
If you're facing conflict about which parents spends how much time with the children, call me today and we'll help put the children first and keep you actively engaged in their lives.
