Suspending a Deadbeat’s Drivers License

Illinois law1 gives judges the power to suspend the driver’s license of an obligor who falls more than 90 behind in child support payments. The suspension can be flexible enough to permit the obligor to drive to and from work, if necessary, but nowhere else. Also, penalties can start to accrue on the unpaid support on a daily (rather than monthly) basis.

The government is also required to suspend an obligor’s passport when certain criteria are met.2
